Chip-Breaker Geometries & Material Selection

Chip-Breaker Geometries & Material Selection

GD (double-sided), GO (single-sided), GS (single-sided), and GA (axial) insert systems across 7 chip-breaker geometries.

Galtona grooving inserts share the same geometry naming across the GD (double-sided), GO (single-sided), GS (single-sided, narrower body), and GA (axial) insert families: M1 (medium cutting, narrow negative chamfer, steel and grey cast iron), F1 (very soft cutting, low cutting forces, parting tubes and thin-walled parts), ST1 (stainless and super-alloys), T (combined grooving and turning), M (radius grooves / copy turning), MM (general application and turning, especially stainless), and LM (non-ferrous metals, highly positive rake with "microfinish" rake face).

Application/parting icons on each geometry indicate whether the insert is intended for parting, grooving, and/or turning — most GD geometries cover all three; GS and GA geometries are grooving/turning only.
