Solid Drills — Vollständige Spezifikationen

Material Groups & Designation System

6 material-application groups (UN, ST, VA, AL, TI, H) and the twist-drill designation code.

Galtona's Solid Drills range organizes every drill first by target material group — UN (universal, steel/cast iron/stainless), ST (micro tools, general/steel), VA (heat-resistant alloys), AL (aluminium and non-ferrous), TI (titanium), and H (hardened steel) — then by tool family (high- performance twist drills HL, HPC micro drills with cooling booster HPC MB, deep-hole drills TLB, HPC through-coolant drills HPC TF, and spot drills A).

Technical Data — Deep-Hole Procedure, Cutting Parameters & Material Reference

Pilot-hole and retraction guidance for deep-hole drilling, per-family Vc/fu cutting-data tables, and material cross-reference.

Deep-hole drilling procedure

For depths beyond standard drill lengths, Galtona recommends a two-stage approach: drill a pilot hole first with a shorter, more rigid drill (tolerance p6), then follow with the matching deep- hole drill (TLB family, tolerances h7/j6/fg6 depending on depth, available up to 50xD). Speed and feed should be reduced when entering the pilot hole, and the drill should be retracted to around 1ר before reducing spindle speed to approximately 300 rpm and withdrawing at rapid feed (vf ≈ 3000 mm/min).

Caution: never run any deep-hole drill with a high number of revolutions out of a pilot hole.

Values vary per tool family and diameter band — every family page in the catalogue carries its own complete Vc/fu table across ~40 material sub-groups (steels, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous, titanium, and hardened tool steel by HRC band).

The catalogue's Technical Information section (pages 223–245) also includes an extensive materials cross-reference (DIN, AFNOR, UNI, BS, JIS, SS, GOST, UNS, and USA equivalents) spanning 8 main material groups — machining/constructional/spring steels, cementation/nitriding/tempered steels, tool steels, stainless steel/heat-resistant alloys, cast steel/iron, non-ferrous metals, titanium, and plastics — available in full on request.
